(Kinshasa, DR Congo) Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS) held a launching ceremony on 3rd August 2017 as a part of the Project entitled “Capacity Development of National Agricultural Extension Center in DR Congo” funded by a bilateral grant from the Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The Korean Ambassador Ki Chang KWON, KOICA Country Director Se Chul OH, the Minister of Agriculture in DRC Georges KAZADI KABONGO, the Secretary General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Evarist BUSHABA Bopeming, other government officers as well as agents from international organizations such as World Bank, IFAD, USAID, WFP have attended this ceremony. By the ceremony, the steering committee of the project named “National Extension Development Committee (NEDC)” has been officially launched and the project management officer, Changuk AN as well as the expert in curriculum development, Jangsaing KIM presented the project plan (e.g. Construction, Operation, and Training).


The National Extension Development Committee (NEDC) is a national-level steering committee which has a role of decision makings for the Project and is composed of the Minister of Agriculture (as Chief of Committee), the General Secretary of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, the KOICA representative as well as the PM representative. The official Minute of Meetings including the agreement on purpose, composition and roles of this Committe has been signed by both Minister of Agriculture and Country Director of KOICA at this ceremony.


KDS with consortium with World Canaan Farmers’ Movement (WCM) implements this project for 54 months from 2017, under cooperation with Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) in DRC in order to increase the agricultural productivity of Congolese farmers through establishment of improved agricultural extension system in DRC. The project is composed of 1) Construction and rehabilitation of National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC) for Training of Trainers (ToT) and Training of Leaders (ToL), 2) Development of curriculum and textbooks, 3) Consulting on improved national agricultural extension system and legislation of NAEC, 4) Establishment of Center operation plan and its capacity building, and 5) Implementation of ToT, ToL and technology dissemination projects.


**Currently the project is managed by the cooperation between the headquarter of Project Management Office (PMO) in Seoul, Korea and Project Management office in Kinshasa, DRC. In the second half of this year, it is planned to have construction design, to select the construction company, to conduct the baseline survey, and to implement the outsourced training.
