(Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia) Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), under the supervision by Korea Institute of Advancement Technology(KIAT), in a consortium with Korea Southern Power Co. Ltd (KOSPO), Samwon Millennia, Busan TechnoPark, Geogeny, and Korean Foundation for Quality(KFQ) is managing a project, “Eco Friendly Town Development Project in Mongolia.” Yaya Kim (Senior Program Officer) from KDS was dispatched to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from Apr 8th to 13th.
“Eco Friendly Town Development Project in Mongolia” takes place in Nalaikh, Mongolia and is a 20-months long project (May 2017 - December 2018). The project aims to i) improve the surrounding environment of abandoned mines through soil stabilization, and ii) meet people’s growing demand for energy and produce “clean energy” through an installation of a hybrid-energy station. In the end, the project goal is to improve living conditions of residents and expand opportunities for the Korean companies to participate in ODA project.
In December 2017, KDS held 1st year self evaluation seminar by inviting external specialists and published the Baseline survey report and the 1st year Monitoring report as a result of performance management.
In this April trip, KOSPO consortium presented project brief to officials from Ministry of Energy and Nalaikh district office for improving knowledge and making progress on the project. Also, needs-based and suitable work plan of 2nd year discussed through workshops with NREC(National Renewable Energy Center) and Nalaikh district office. At the end of the trip, the consortium had a meeting with Embassy of Republic of Korea in Mongolia, sharing progress of the project and got consultancy for successful ODA in Mongolia.
**After conclusion of ROD(Reference of Discussion) and setting specific work plan with Mongolian government, KOSPO consortium will implement 2nd year's project components.
