13 staffers of the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS) participated in the 53rd Annual meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) held from May 21 to 25 in Bexco, Busan. During this annual event, KDS shared its accomplishments and performances in international development with public and private sector stakeholders from Africa and explored more opportunities for partnerships with African countries.


Through one on one business meetings, KDS met with many high level officials from Africa and AfDB, including Mme.Niate KABA (Minister of Planning and Development of Côte d'Ivoire), Biendi Maganga – Moussavou (Minister of Agriculture of Gabon), Florence Kosgey Bore MP (Member of the National Congress of Kenya), Abdu MUKTAR (Director of Industrial and Trade Development Department of AfDB), Dr. Guy Blaise NKAMLEV (Advisor to the Vice President of AfDB) and Mr. Dauda in charge of capacity development at AfDB. Through these meetings, KDS introduced its core competences to interested participants and discussed opportunities for engagement in development projects in Africa.


In addition, KDS operated a promotional booth in the business exhibition to promote KDS’s business and disseminate its knowledge and experiences among African stakeholders. 21 stakeholders visited the KDS booth to discuss a possible partnership, which has been followed up by subsequent meetings.


At the breakfast meeting in which AfDB officials and high-level government officials participated, Dr. Seung-hun Chun, the president of KDS, introduced his recent book entitled “The Economic Development of South Korea: From Poor to a Modern Industrial State” and shared Korea's economic development and know-how with participating African officials.
KDS will take further steps to strengthen personal networks established with African officials during the 53rd AfDB annual meeting and expand partnerships with African countries to accelerate progress toward sustainable development in Africa.
