Korea Institute for Development Strategy(KDS) successfully conducted ‘1st Training & Consulting in Sri Lanka(July 20~24, 2015)’ and ‘2nd Training & Consulting in Sri Lanka(Oct 5~9, 2015)’ in Colombo, Sri Lanka for statistical officials working in the fields of SNA and Sampling. Each training was designed for providing on-the-job education and consulting sessions. The trainings were prepared so as to share Korean expertise on statistical development, strengthen human capacity of DCS Sri Lanka, and build stronger partnership between the two countries, Korea and Sri Lanka.


The total of 40 trainees who participated in 1st Training & Consulting also joined 2nd Training & Consulting conducted in October which enhanced the efficiency and continuity of education. Overall, the training sessions were delivered to develop trainees’ working knowledge, encouraging active discussion on the case of Korean statistical development and application to Sri Lanka. Also, additional consulting sessions were provided to minimize issues that trainees might have during application to their work. Particularly, sessions with trainees’ presentation encouraged their participation and by sufficient knowledge sharing, the total outcome of two trainings were ensured its stability and sustainability.


The local Training & Consulting conducted twice in Colombo Sri Lanka has planned to facilitate the statistical IT infrastructure and strengthen human capacity of DCS. The remaining tasks of this project are ‘High-Level Training’ in Korea to be conducted from 2nd to 6th of November, and ‘Final Report Workshop’ to be held in Sri Lank in the mid of November.



Korea Institute for Development Strategy(KDS) conducts ‘Strengthening the Statistical Capacity of the Department of Census and Statistics of Sri Lanka’ in collaboration with DCS Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). This KOSTAT Project’s duration is 3 year, and KDS takes in charge of management and implementation for its 2nd year from April to November 2015. The Project consists of two local Training & Consulting and four Training & Consulting in Korea, as well as providing equipment for two computer lecture rooms and advanced Statistical software to DCS.
