Korea Institute for Development Strategy(KDS) conducted ‘High-Level Training(November 1~7, 2015)’ in Korea with invitation of 10 high-level officials including Director-General of DCS Sri Lanka, and successfully transferred Korean expertise and experiences on strengthening the capacity of statistical personnels. The ‘High-Level Training’ in Korea was once arranged but cancelled due to the unexpected outbreak of MERS in Korea around June, which now makes it more meaningful upon the completion of this training.


‘High-level training’ has provided lectures with subjects of Korean statistical system, and introduction to statistical package R. In particular, topics of governmental statistics for economic growth and leadership of high governmental officials with Korean development case were covered, which suggested the important roles and key implications of high-level officials of a country by encouraging progressive their mind-sets. During the training week, trainees visited  Statistical Training Institute(STI) and Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). In addition, a meeting was held between Director-General of DCS Sri Lanka and Commissioner of KOSTAT where they reconfirmed their strong commitment of continuous cooperation and partnership in Statistics between Korea and Sri Lanka.


So far, KDS has completed all the tasks given for the KOSTAT Project 2015. To disseminate the final report of KOSTAT Project 2015, the Project Completion Ceremony will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 18th November, and 30th November in Daejeon, Korea.


Korea Institute for Development Strategy(KDS) conducts ‘Strengthening the Statistical Capacity of the Department of Census and Statistics of Sri Lanka’ in collaboration with DCS Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). This KOSTAT Project’s duration is 3 year, and KDS takes in charge of management and implementation for its 2nd year from April to November 2015. The Project consists of two local Training & Consulting programs and four training programs in Korea, as well as providing equipment for two computer lecture rooms and advanced Statistical software to DCS.
