The 1st International Development Cooperation Exhibition, sponsored by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to raise awareness of development cooperation for middle, high school and college students was held at Ewha Womans University in Seoul on September 29.

KOICA, Exim-Bank and 19 development NGOs in Korea each installed a booth and participated. There was active interest by students from Korean Colleges on KDS due to its unique pioneering role as a private research and consulting organization on development cooperation. The participating agencies distributed their promotional materials and souvenirs to the visitors in the booths and had time to introduce development cooperation projects they are conducting in developing countries, overseas volunteer program and etc.

The event was also attended by many students from developing countries sponsored by KOICA for Masters Degree. In his congratulatory remarks the President of KOICA, Park Dae-Won, expressed his hope that through the exhibitions, students who were unfamiliar with Development Aid, would gain useful insights of what development assistance Korea is offering and thus have the chance to ‘think again about our (Korean) role.”

The Korea Institute for Development Strategy exhibited and distributed the final reports which it has made as part of its consulting or Knowledge Sharing Programs (KSP) in conjunction with International organizations, KOICA, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) etc.

In the meantime they have introduced about KDS’s role and projects to the undergraduate and graduate students. Moreover, this event provided the not only an opportunity to inform on the diverse activities and roles of different Korean organizations in development cooperation, but also an opportunity to gauge the level of awareness on development cooperation issues among Korean undergraduate/graduate and middle/high school students.
