Yonsei GSIS and KDS entered into a partnership for the vision of shared prosperity through strengthened exchange and cooperation on international development 06 May 2010 – A memorandum of understanding was signed today between Yonsei GSIS and Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS) to strengthen research and consulting capacity, as well as nurture young leaders on international development. 

The two year framework of cooperation consists of comprehensive measures to enhance the efforts of both parties in development cooperation, including: - Development of joint lecture and education program - Joint research and consulting activities - ODA research scholarship program - Knowledge sharing through joint seminar and workshop - Offering of internship programs “We believe this milestone-marking cooperation will let us put one step forward in our efforts to strategically reduce poverty of the world, and very importantly, grow professional young minds of common passion along the road.”, said Dr. Seung-Hun, Chun, President of KDS in his opening remark. Notably, Dr. Chun shared his accumulated knowledge and field experience in development with Yonsei GSIS through his one-semester long lecture on “International Cooperation and the Role of Korea’ in September 2009.

The MOU signing ceremony was jointly organized by Yonsei GSIS and KDS at New Millennium Hall of Yonsei Main Campus. In front of around 50 participants of professors, students and distinguished guests, the MOU was signed by Prof. Chung-Min Lee, Dean of Yonsei GSIS, and Dr. Seung Hun Chun, President of KDS. 

Afterwards, the first KDS ODA research scholarship was awarded to Ms. Ewi-Jeong, Jeong, Master’s candidate on Program of International Cooperation. The awardee was selected among the applicants with their research proposals on the development of Africa. Ms. Jeong will be assisted with the scholarship in her research endeavors on “Economic Policy and Women in Libya”.

The ceremony was finalized by the special lecture by Dr. Hyun-Sik, Chang, vice president of KOICA on How Korea Tackles Poverty in the World.
