From
January 9 to 11, KDS team (Managing Director, Hongmin Chun, Team manager, Ya Ya
Kim, and Program Officer, Hannah Park) visited Hanoi, the capital city of
Vietnam to implement the project “Promoting Investment Market for Energy
Efficiency in industry in Vietnam”. In particular, the KDS team announced the
achievements in performance management throughout the project at the 3rd
Conference which was a final briefing session of the project.
The
conference was held in Pan Pacific Hotel in Hanoi on 10 January and 136 participants attended the
event including the deputy director of MOIT(Ministry of Industry and Trade in
Vietnam), the country director and the deputy director of KOICA-Vietnam and
other key stakeholders from the industry sector. In the conference, main
achievements of the project and useful knowledge and information on Energy
Efficiency Investments identified throughout the project activities were shared
with the audiences.
The
event began with speeches by the deputy director of MOIT, the country director
of KOICA-Vietnam, and Climate Change Response Executive Director of Korea
Energy Agency. Key actors of the project gave presentations regarding the
project outline and result, performance management, Energy efficiency measures
and estimated investment cost, ESCO contracts, financial sources for energy
efficiency investment projects and a Pha Lai power plant case(feasibility study
as well as investment loan application document). Especially, KDS team presented
its remarkable performance management results; the energy audit capacity of 10
audit teams were enhanced, accounting for 5 points out of 7 (baseline was 4.2
points) and industry awareness on energy efficiency investment was increased by
82.7%. In Q and A session, the director of Pha Lai power plant answered many
questions and shared knowledge and experience which brought about interests from
the conference participants.
Overall,
it is expected that knowledge sharing through this conference will have
positive impacts on energy efficiency investments in industry in Vietnam and
produce synergy between continuous efforts of industry and Korea-Vietnam
governments.
***The
project “Promoting Investment Market for Energy Efficiency in industry in
Vietnam” has influenced investment boost in energy efficiency in Vietnam by identifying
and supporting feasible EE projects and providing capacity building programs
such as seminar, workshop and conferences. Main results of the project are as
follows: 10 EE investment project identified, 10 teams consulted on EE by
Korean experts and 19% capacity improved, 224 industrial participants and 82.7%
awareness on EE and investment improved.
KDS
is going to end this project coming February, and keep doing relevant projects
with continuous concern with energy efficiency and investment.
