Kick-off Meeting Held in Erbil

The consortium of Korea Institute for Development Strategy(KDS) and Konkuk University is implementing a 3-year KOICA project, ‘The Project for Capacity Building of the Kurdistan Institute of Public Administration(KIPA)’ as a Project Management Consultancy(PMC) from Dec. 2013 to Dec. 2016.

The project aims to establish a Master Plan of KIPA, to reengineer KIPA’s organizational structure, to develop training programs and curriculum in order to achieve capacity building of the Kurdistan government officials in overall, which is ultimately expected to contribute to the development of the Kurdistan region.

KDS and Konkuk University initiated the Project by dispatching nine Korean experts led by Mr. Kyung Bae PARK, the Project Manager(PM) and General Director of Global Capacity Development Center of KDS, to Erbil, Iraq from Feb. 9. There were Kick-off Workshop and field surveys in close cooperation with the Ministry of Planning(MOP), KRG.

With major stakeholders, His Excellency, Minister of MOP, Dr. Ali Sindi, Dr. Abdulrazaq, Director-General of the General Directorate of Human Development and Mr. Hyung Ho CHO , the Resident Representative of KOICA Erbil Office, the dispatched team successfully held the Kick-off Meeting on Feb. 15. In the meeting, Mr. PARK made a presentation on work scopes, purposes and detailed schedule of the project to the KRG officials. A second Kick-off Workshop which was opened on Mar. 4 for Director-Generals and advisors from all the 19 KRG ministries boosted their understandings and participations in the project.

His Excellency, the Minister, Dr. Ali Sindi expressed strong support throughout the project term in the expectation that it would lead to capacity building of government officials in KRG and also a stepping-stone of closer cooperative relation between Korea and KRG.
