Dr. Seung-hun CHUN, the President of the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS) visited Libreville, Gabon at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Gabon(MFA) from April 26th to May 2nd, 2015. Dr. CHUN’s visit was intended for a dissemination seminar as a follow-up component for the “Economic Development Capacity Building Program for Gabonese Government Officials” which was conducted by KDS last December. The MFA proposed a dissemination seminar in order to share the successful outcome of the above mentioned Program with a number of Gabonese officials and to explore ways for further capacity building of participants.

 

On April 29, the Dissemination seminar was held at the Auditorium of the MFA with attendence of more than 50 public officials from various ministries who are engaged in the economic development of Gabon and capacity building. The First Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Théo Sidoine MOUISSI MICKELE addressed the opening ceremony. Following that, Mr. Valentin LOEMBA BAYONNE, Ambassador Itinerant and the coordinator of the Program made a presentation on the background and main content of the training provided. The Economic Counselor to the MFA, Mr. Joël NKEGNA made a presentation on “Learning Korea’s Experience.” Dr. CHUN delivered a presentation on “Gabon’s Challenges in Economic Development” in which he applauded the Gabonese Government officials’ efforts to sustain its economic development.

 

During this visit to Libreville, Dr. Chun had a meeting with the former participants in an attempt to review the results of the training and monitor how participants have applied the knowledge, experience and findings from the training into their duties for fostering the capacity of their organization. Dr. CHUN also visited the Special Economic Zone(SEZ) of Nkok, the first SEZ in Gabon, and the Raponda Walker National Arboretum, pursing further cooperation between Gabon and Korea for the future.
