Contents The Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), is implementing the project entitled ‘Project for Establishment of Agro-processing and Marketing Strategy in Uganda’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries(MAAIF) of the Republic of Uganda. This project is a 3-year-project(2013-2017) supported by Korea International Cooperation Agency aimed at developing sustainable agro-processing and marketing strategy for maize, rice and oranges.

The Project components are as follows:

1.Strategy Development: Establishment of Agro-processing strategy and implementation plan

2.Capacity building: Invitational training for High and Working level officials and trainers; Local training for farm leaders and young successors; Local workshop with stakeholders and farmers

3.Strategy Application: Provision of agro-processing equipment for existing agro-processing centers; Operation of Pilot/Demonstration center based on the Strategy

The team of Korean experts led by Mr.Kim Jin-Soo(Project Manager) have visited Uganda to undertake baseline surveys from July 28 to August 21, 2014. The team, divided by three groups, traveled in the western, mid-eastern and eastern regions of Uganda. The team collected and collated information from the key stakeholders such as farmers, processors, middlemen, sales agents and distributors along the value-chains of maize, rice and oranges. The result of the survey will provide a basis for guiding the project in designing appropriate agro-processing and marketing strategies.
