From Feb. 18th to Feb. 22nd, 2014, Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS), led by Mr. Young-Ju Kim (Senior Advisor, Former- Minister in Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy), successfully held the Final Reporting Workshop and Senior Policy Dialogue in Astana, Kazakhstan. Officials from Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning (MEBP), Ministry of Regional Development (MRD), Economic Research Institute (ERI), DAMU along with the Korean Ambassador and Counselor attended the Final Reporting Workshop, where research results on the following three sub-topics were presented: 1) Improving the attractiveness of the investment climate in accordance with the OECD standards; 2) Research on PPP activation; 3) Balanced regional growth via development of focused major industries. Approximately 60 people attended the workshop and actively participated in Q&A and discussion sessions to assess the applicability and implications of proposed policies.
The Senior Policy Dialogue was further held on Feb. 21st, 2014, to promote policy reflection and effective implementation of KSP research results. The policy dialogue mainly involved discussions on policy recommendations made by the Korean research team, and policy-makers from related ministries and institutions expressed their strong interest and enthusiasm for foreign investment attraction in Kazakhstan. The participants from Kazakhstan also indicated their need for an expanded scope on PPP policy development and capacity building for the upcoming KSP and requested further cooperation between the two countries in connection with economic development in Kazakhstan.
