Korea Development Strategy Institute (KDS) is
currently implementing Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s Project
on “Capacity Enhancement of Sudan-Korea Khartoum VTC (SKVTC) in the Republic of
Sudan” in consortium with Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) as the
Project Management Consultancy (PMC). The duration of the Project is from 2021
to 2024 with a 5-million-dollar grant from the Korean government.
SKVTC, located in Khartoum, was
established with the support of the Korean government in 1996. Since then, SKVTC has supplied on average 250 talented youth to the Sudanese labour market every year, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of Sudan as well as the career
development of the Sudanese youth. However, SKVTC has recently been exposed to numerous difficulties - such as failure to retain trained teachers, deteriorated
materials and equipment, and etc.
KDS and KCCI dispatched a delegation of experts to Sudan from 1st to 15th
April in order to launch the Project and to diagnose the current situations of
Sudan for the Project implementation. The Delegation had a series of meetings
with the stakeholders such as students, teachers and staff of SKVTC, members of
SCVTA (Supreme Council for Vocational Training and Apprenticeship), public
officials at MoFEP (Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning), and other donor
agencies. The investigation and data collection successfully has been finished
on schedule, and the detailed implementation plan has been discussed.
KDS is in charge of performance management of the Project and provision of
consulting services for the improved operation system of SKVTC. Based on its
accumulated expertise with ODA projects in various development sectors, KDS
looks forward to contributing to the improvement of the quality of Sudan's
vocational and technical education and training and further, the facilitation
of Sudan’s socio-economic development through the Project.
